How to Start Safety in Factory

Azahan Arif Md Yusop

Abstract

The most common task of every OSH Practitioner when they are joining new companies is developing OSH Management System. After practicing OSH since 2004, I observed that this is the number one challenge of most OSH Practitioners in Malaysia they do not have the strategy of how to start safety. Azahan has 13 years of experience working in Manufacturing. My role in the second and third employer is to develop the OSH Management system. While serving the third employer, I was chosen to assist in developing OSH MS for a plant in Brisbane, Australia. The DuPont Bradley Curve was applied as the overall strategy to develop the OSH Management System. Which I have adapted and converted into a strategy written as a book entitled How to Start Safety in Factory. In this e-book, I simplified the OSH setup process into four steps only. In every step, I give a touch of details and examples for them to follow. The four steps are: Setting the Foundation, Developing Risk Assessment, Developing OSH Committee, Developing Proposals. OSH Practitioners gets not only technical strategy but also administrative strategy to plant the seed in growing OSH in their new workplace. This is important because having technical knowledge only is not enough. I introduced Neuro Linguistics Programming in the strategy so that OSH Practitioners able to attract and evade the bureaucracy and minimize political challenges. This book has helped hundreds of young OSH Practitioners in Malaysian. Not only manufacturing but also from other industries; building management, construction, engineering, hospital & plantation. I hope this will help OSH Practitioners from another region too because it is too good to be learned by Malaysian only.
